Newerth League FAQ

Q: What is Newerth League and what is its purpose in relation to HoN?

A: Newerth League is designed to be an organization capable of hosting games, leagues and tournaments from around the world. The focus will be on competitiveness and professionalism. If HoN is to be taken seriously as an eSport, then professionalism is key. In relation to HoN, the goal is to simply get more players interested the game by offering prizes and incentives for everything related to the game.

Q: What levels and events will there be prizes?

A: The goal is to have incentives at every level of play. Of course the more competitive the level, the greater the awards will be. Nonetheless, because the developers of this league are all players as well, we know how tough it can be to get your foot in the door competitively speaking. So hopefully, incentives at the open levels will help create players that have yet to become known.

Q: Why play in Newerth League?

A: This is a tough question. We've tried to make playing here as seamless and as much fun as possible. The differences we can think of are, prizes for singles leagues (versus just playing HoN online), an improved community, with dedication anyone can become a high level player and large scale leagues and tournaments.

Q: What is NLS?

A: NLS stands for Newerth League Skill. It's a new skill system we've implemented just for this site. Instead of basing a player's skill purely from who they play, NLS takes into account everything you do in the game. It's very difficult to estimate a player's skill using only a number. But, we've tried to make the most accurate rating system possible and are confident in NLS. In the future, there will be incentives having to do with NLS.

Q: How does NLS work?

A: Each player starts off with a rating of 200. A player's rating can go from 0 to 500. The goal is to reach 500, though the system should prevent anyone from ever getting that high. Similar to PSR, as a player's NLS increases, so does the difficulty of obtaining a higher rating. We know everyone would like to know how it is calculated. But, to prevent players from abusing the system, we can't give you the algorithms or methods used to calculate it. All we can tell you is that there are a lot of calculations involved.
